3. Product Description:
Material: Exceptionally durable decorative multicolor spray finish for exterior applications. Excellent adhesion to almost all properly primed and painted surfaces with an appropriate exterior coating. May also be used for interior applications.
Limitations: Exterior applications require special preparation and companion products. Freezable and heat sensitive product must be protected from temperature extremes during shipping, storage and application.
Sizes: Gallons and 5 gallon pails only. Shipping weight 9.1 lbs. per gallon.
Composition and Materials: An emulsion of solvent based paint droplets suspended in water.
Suitable Applications: Designed for exterior use, walls and structural elements. Apply over surfaces which are properly prepared, primed and painted with the appropriate exterior paint for concrete, concrete block, cinder block, stucco, stone and steel.
Unsuitable Applications:
Not for use on areas with hydrostatic pressure; flexible surfaces subjected to excessive structural movement, exposure to corrosives or high heat. Not for extreme exterior durability applications.
4. Technical Data:
Finish: Flat finish with slight physical texture. The larger the fleck size, the heavier the physical texture.
Gloss: 10º with 60º glossmeter (ASTM D-523).
Coverage: Approximately 250 to 300 square feet per gallon at 50% coverage over a smooth properly prepared surface. Spread rate will depend on the percent of surface covered.
Shelf Life: May degrade under temperature extremes and excessive agitation or vibration. Manufacturer recommends use within one year from date of manufacture.
Dry Time: To touch 2 to 4 hours. To use 24 hours, full cure 5 to 7 days. Drytime will vary depending on temperature, humidity, film thickness and type of surface.

Flash Point: 205º Fahrenheit. Tagliabue Closed Cup (TCC) Test (ASTM D-56).

Flexibility: No cracking or checking when bent around 1/8" mandrell (FED STD-141B, Method 6221).
Self Lifting: Excellent intercoat adhesion (FED STD-141B method 6252).
Washability: Reflectance recovery 88% (ASTM D-3450).
Scrub Resistance: 1885 cycles (ASTM D-2486).
Mildew, Fungal Resistance and Bacterial Inhibition: Total absence of mildew and fungal growth, no surface bacterial growth (FED-STD-141B, Method 6271).
Natural Weathering: 5 years, 45º southern exposure, Miami, FL, over properly treated concrete and primers. Excellent results with almost no change in appearance. Results were based on full coat coverage and may vary based on substrate variations, preparations and choice of primer. When used as a spatter coat, performance will depend on the topcoat system used.
Accelerated Weathering: QUV A&B 5000 hours exposure over primed SMC test placques. Excellent color retention and film integrity with slight chalking.
V.O.C/V.O.S. Content: 540 grams/liter, 4.5 lbs./gal. Non- photochemically reactive.
Odor: Mineral spirits odor while spraying and drying.
5. APPLICATION: Handling/Storage/Shipping: Care must be exercised in handling. Paint is fragile. Box paint gently back and forth between two containers to mix thoroughly. Do not mix mechanically. Vigorous agitation may break down color flecks and change color. Do not freeze or store over 100º F. Close container tightly after each use. Do not store in unlined metal containers.
Surface Preparation: Surface must be clean, dry. Prime with appropriate primer-sealer-stainkiller required for surface to be painted. Follow primer manufacturer's instructions for use. For hard, smooth surfaces, specific high performance primers are recommended. Topcoats that contain wax, silicones or stearates may not be suitable, when in doubt, check intercoat adhesion. Once surface has been primed apply the appropriate exterior flat topcoat with the desired background color before applying Duraspec. Spatter at approximately 50% coverage or at a spread rate desired for a specific spatter pattern appearance. Multicolor pattern size will appear smaller over textured surfaces.
Reduction: When necessary, add water gradually in small increments (3 to 4 liquid ounces per addition not to exceed 5% in total) until an acceptable spray pattern is achieved. Too much water will cause the paint to sag. (Do not add thinners, reducers or solvents.)

Equipment: May be be applied with specific HVLP and conventional air spray equipment. For small fleck size airless equipment may be used.
Application Guidelines: Final finish will vary from standard due to variations in background color, multicolor batch, equipment, pressure settings and technique. Always evaluate color, pattern and paint delivery rate on mock-up test area while using specific batch of paint with equipment selected for project, and be certain that mock-up meets with the approval of specifier prior to beginning project. Once approved, the mock-up should serve as the standard for the project. NOTE: Spatter coat application will look different depending on the percent of surface covered and the color of the background paint used. Follow manufacturer's equipment instructions for use and maintenance of equipment. Observe all warning statements relating to both paint and equipment.
• Avoid application during periods of high humidity and/or when temperature of paint surface or air is below 60º F or above 100º F.
• Remove all filters and strainers from spray equipment.
• Do not use pressure pot agitator, siphon-type or gravity feed guns.
One-Step Application Technique:
Set material and air pressure to match approved mock-up. Aim spray gun directly at surface (spraying at an angle will distort pattern). Spray with horizontal passes followed by vertical passes at speed and distance from the surface to provide the desired spatter appearance. The further away from surface the spray gun is positioned and the faster the pass the wider the spatter pattern. The closer to the surface and the slower the pass the tighter the spatter pattern. Practice application technique at desired spread rate prior to beginning project.
Topcoating: Not necessary in most applications. Can be topcoated to increase gloss and/or improve properties.
Touchup: Patch and/or prime as necessary. Select spray equipment and tip size and adjust pressure settings to be used. Do a mock-up to match original finish.
1. For small areas: Apply multicolor lightly as a spattercoat, inspect and continue to spatter area until same appearance is achieved as the adjacent painted area. Feather out as necessary to blend in.
2. For large areas: Corner-to-corner touchup is recommended using the same application technique and equipment setup as used in original application.
3. Note: In areas with clear topcoat, degloss and/or prime and apply exterior finish coat before repainting, using multicolor followed by clear topcoat.

Cleanup: Flush equipment thoroughly with water followed by mineral spirits.
